The EarFun UBOOM X portable Bluetooth speaker.
In the Box
1 Carrying Strap
1 User Manual
1 USB-C - USB- C charging cable
1 extended Warranty card
1 Speaker.
The control buttons are found directly underneath the carrying handle...
Power Button>Bluetooth Button>Volume ->Volume+>Play/Pause>Light Effect >Party Mode also power indicator White Lights 1>4 being fully charged.
To the rear, You have USB-Charging Input Port>USB-C Charging Output Port(allows charging external devices via the speaker)>3.5mm audio input.
The first thing I did was download the EarFun audio app. Once done I was prompted to make an account...
Then it was time to find your device and connect to it, so the app redirected me to my phone settings>Bluetooth>Pair New Device>EarFun UBOOM X >Pair>Connected.
I was then prompted to run a Firmware Update. Once done, you can set your EQ settings. You can customise your own or go with a preset. You have a choice of 26. Then you can also use Oluv Sone presets, but if chosen, they will use more power. I'm not sure why. Also, at this point, I began to think that too much choice is worse than too little. I went with Bass Boost 3 to start with .
So having powered on the speaker on my phone, I set it to my default of Smooth Radio Relax... Now the EarFun is roughly the size of my Harman Kardon GO PLAY +3 so how does it compare... The first thing to say the Bass Boost 3 does not give overpowering low frequencies, yes there is thumping bass but it engages well with the mid to upper frequencies At roughly 50 % volume it is loud enough, for one-on-one listening... The SQ is superb on a par with the Harman Kardon and that is praise.
The Mids and Highs are crisp, clear, and detailed and with that rumbling bass, it makes for listening heaven... The Sound signature is bright and Chirpy a delight... And this at the current price means it comes in at a 3rd of the price of the Harman Kardon.
If you like that sort of thing you get a light display to go along with the music, it's all about the sound for me.
Though not the lightest speaker and despite its size, it is easy to carry to your desired location, either by the handle or the provided carrying strap...
According to the manual, the speaker offers TWS which enables a master and servant connection, so true stereo separation and twice the volume, but it does not state which speakers will connect 2 UBOOM X or more speakers from the EarFun range.
Build Quality 4/5 plastic throughout, but very solid and reassuringly weighty.
SQ 5/5 at 50 % volume and a perfect balance between the lows >mids> high frequencies is music-listening heaven.
VFM 5/5 at sub £120 is exceptional value. Recommended is an understatement Vollständige Rezension anzeigen

The first thing that struck me about this is the weight. It promised quality and I was not disappointed. Well, perhaps at first, when I hurriedly connected it direct to one of the many streaming devices we have scattered around the house. The the sound was good, ok, but nowhere near what it sounds like now!
I checked online and saw a video that mentioned firmware upgrades. Only then did I look at the little manual that came with the speaker and sussed that there is an App for it. I downloaded the app and promptly reconfigured so it Bluetooth connected directly to the phone. I say promptly, it took me a while to decide to read the manual more thoroughly to find how to reset the Bluetooth in the speaker itself so the phone could see it.
Once connected to the app, it suggested a firmware update. That didn't take long. The app also has a good variety of Equalizer pre-sets as well as a custom equaliser mode. I decided having connected it the phone, it may as well take the Amazon music feed directly from Alexa in the phone.
Oh my word! The speaker sounded amazing and I was soon rocking and smiling! Oh yes,,, This machine is ideal for what we want it for, BBQs, holidays and anytime we're away from our main household systems. Fantastic for the size in my opinion, it sounds far bigger than it is! The light show that it does we find very entertaining as well! Battery life specifications suggest far longer playing times are available than we would need between charges. I'm absolutely delighted with it, massively impressed! Vollständige Rezension anzeigen

If you like deep thumping bass, boy is this thing for you!
Dance music sounds epic through this, as does reggae and pop. If that isn't your thing, no problem, Just go to the EQ in the app settings and tweak the sound to your liking or choose one of the many presets supplied. You will get something that suits your audio needs.
Sound is detailed, smooth and full, I enjoy listening to this alot and find it handy in the office to stream radio shows to. I even used it as a sound bar for my TV by plugging in a cable from the TV headphone socket into the Aux in on the UBOOM and it straight away switched to that input and I had glorious deep sounds without any delay. No doubt you could also do this via bluetooth but my TV doesn't have that functionality.
As with most EarFun products you get to control most things via the app including the lights on the front. You can specify colours, whether they stay on permanently or flash in time with the music. Select the black colour to switch them off completely. You can also set EQ, automatic shutdown time and upgrade firmware.
This thing allows you to recharge your phone as well. via the Output USB socket behind the waterproof cover on the back. They do seem to have thought of everything. The item weighs in at 4.2kg and comes supplied with a detachable shoulder strap.
Overall I am very impressed with this, the sound quality is good, it goes very loud, sound staging is quite wide, you can buy two and link them for a stereo pair (It can pair up to 50 units) the battery life is excellent at 30 hours and it took me 4 hours to fully charge it (It came partly charged). It is also very well made with no dodgy misaligned panels or connectors like you find on some of these things. Although it's primarily plastic, it feels premium, the metal grill on the front is very well finished and the weighty feel makes you feel like you've got your moneys worth.
You can even use it to send and receive phone calls as it has a built in mic.
If there is one thing I'd like to see it would be Siri or Alexa support through the built in mic. That would truly be the icing on the cake. It does play Siri results through the speaker but it uses the phones microphone to pick up your voice.
The only other thing I'd like to see is more highly tuned but smooth tweeters as I do like to hear percussion instruments like Hi-Hat and tambourine. To hear these at a volume I like I've had to increase the 8k and 16k frequency EQ bands to their max and then reduce the 2k and 4k bands to -5 each to get a sound that wasn't too harsh. I'm just nit picking though for my personal tastes.
Overall though I'm very pleased. Nice one Earfun. 10/10 Vollständige Rezension anzeigen
