The Bass Boost Speaker Unit features an almost rectangular diaphragm, for an increased surface area compared to conventional speaker units. The 20 mm x 20 mm large woofer unit gives clear and deep bass sound

Oluv Tuned Signature EQ Setting

"I wanted to create a sound which would make the Uboom X my main portable speaker. A speaker which sounds nice at low levels, but also remains kicking and balanced at high levels and which can play really loud if needed. All the different sound modes should be suitable for either indoor or outdoor listening where you usually need more bass. And for all those still complaining about too little bass just try the BOOM xxX mode :)."

One of the most balanced speakers on the market
By Drew Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2024

For the record, I own 17 Bluetooth speakers and follow the entire market of new ones coming out.

First thing to mention. Oluv knocked the tuning out of the park, even more than the Uboom L. This is by far the most neutrally tuned Boombox speaker I've ever come across in the "Studio" mode which was tuned to sound like a Neumann KH80. There's also Indoor, Indoor+, Outdoor, Outdoor+, BOOM xxX, and Ground 0 (for use outdoors when placed on the ground) modes selectable in the App which boost the bass and treble at the ends to different degrees. Myself and I think most people will prefer the Indoor (a little bass boost) and Indoor+ (more bass boost) modes the most, unless you're looking for a lot more bass where the Outdoor, Outdoor+ and BOOM xxX modes shine. The tuning does a really good job at not having the bass overwhelm the midrange detail which a lot of other speakers don't do very well. There's also a 10 band EQ if none of the presets are exactly to your taste.

It also does low level listening extremely well like the Uboom L, just with deeper bass due to the larger drivers. There's a lot of low volume steps in the Indoor and Indoor+ modes to find your perfect low volume level. All the other modes are more for louder outdoor use and have volume steps spaced more evenly across the mid to high volume ranges. It's really well thought out.

For those with a Uboom L, that speaker could be a little harsh in the treble as it was designed to be more neutral off axis so there's some treble boost when listening directly on axis. The Uboom X has much better off axis dispersion due to the real dome tweeters and doesn't have any boost in the Studio mode and just a slight boost in the Indoor modes and more in the Outdoor modes. The other issue with the Uboom L was at high volumes it would lose a ton of bass and wasn't that great outdoors. The Uboom X obviously due to its size and power goes a lot deeper and can hold on to more bass at higher volumes.

This speaker measures 10db down at around 38hz, so it goes deeper than the Blast and Boombox 3 and the same as the JBL Encore but not quite as deep as a Go+ Play 3.

This speaker will party mode with a total of 50 units, or can TWS in stereo with a 2nd unit. There's instructions in the manual for how to do each which requires a different pairing button press.

Also something that a lot of people will like, it charges over USB-C so you can use your smaller battery banks to keep it powered or charge it. It's also IP67 rated like most other speakers in the class and has a 30 hour battery life.

It's also noticeably lighter than the Stormbox Blast and much more comfortable to carry at 9.2lbs / 4.18kg (versus the 11.6lbs Blast). Another thing to note, the Stormbox Blast has a curve under the carrying handle which makes it want to fall out of your hand while this Uboom X has a flat bottom handle which stays in your hand better and is just overall more comfortable. The Uboom X also comes with a carrying strap and 2 metal loops to attach it to.

You're also able to either change the volume of the power on/power off beeps or shut them off completely in the app.

As for downsides, there's not many. It won't get quite as loud as a Boombox 3 or other higher powered speakers, and doesn't have quite as deep of bass as a Go+ Play 3, but with the amazing neutral tuning, I personally find this speaker to be my favorite. The lights can be a little cheezy, but it's really easy to turn them off. Also on that note, you can select any color you like for the lights in the app.

Clean and balanced sound, with versatile volume steps!
By scjr Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2024

I was pleased to learn that EarFun has finally decided to offer a larger Bluetooth speaker and the UBOOM X doesn’t disappoint. (Please note: There is a firmware update available, via the App, that addresses an EQ issue and other bug fixes. Please update first.)

The build quality seems solid. The sound is balanced and it can get very loud. The lights are cool and you can customize them within the EarFun App. The lights pulsate with the music as well.

The App support is great, with plenty of sound profiles to choose from. Oluv’s tuning is included, but you can customize the sound to your liking. You want even more bass? You can tune it in the App.

The battery is large enough to use as a backup power bank. This is convenient if your cell phone needed a quick boost. The speaker is waterproof, so no worries around water. The included carry strap is a welcome addition as well for those on the go.

If you decide to get two of these, you can connect them in True Wireless Stereo mode (TWS). I can only imagine how loud two connected would get. This is another positive feature.

I’ve made a short video that gives you an idea of its sound quality at a low volume level. Please use ear / headphone’s to listen to get the best representation (Oluv “Outdoor” tuning used in video). The sound is super clean, with tight bass. I tested it this way for folks like me who live close to neighbors and want to use it at home as well. Volume level is just three steps in video. The bass, even at this level, is punchy!

I’ve been impressed with this speaker. What’s most impressive to me, it can play at a lower volume level and it still sounds great, with bass. It’s perfect for condo’s and apartments as well. The volume steps are very versatile. If you’re considering other larger speakers, this one definitely deserves serious consideration.

Unofficially pairs to 1 UBOOM L speaker!
By Mitch N. Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2024

After reaching out to earfuns customer support, they told me that the speaker couldn't currently connect to the Uboom L.

I tried it anyways when I received it and it worked!

I currently have (at this time) version .39 updated via the EarFun app with a simple click.

I had to forget/disconnect the bluetooth from my Uboom L, connect with the X, and then hold the X's pairing button (not bluetooth button) for 2 seconds and the L's Bluetooth button for 5 seconds.

It takes me a couple tries, and I usually have to power it off and on off it doesn't work on the first try.

I can tell it's not quite made for it with how they pair and the sad sounding beep that comes from the L (I've never heard it before this 🤣), but I bet it will get worked out in a future app update.

It takes a little with to get then to connect every time. More so than 2 L's, but it's not super terrible.

The 2 together sound incredible, just set the X back a bit further as it will be a hair over powering, but will fill the room with more bass.

Battery life is incredible. Waaaay more than the L.

Great Sound with Oluv's Presets
By Munbrobear Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2024

I'd been wanting a portable boombox speaker for about four months at this point (Oct. 11, 2024) and had looked into everything that was available on the market from that time including Soundcore, Tribit, and W-King brands. Can't tell you how many comparison videos I'd watched. It became overwhelming pretty quickly and I couldn't make up my mind. I spent hours looking (and listening).

Then I discovered, through Reddit, that Earfun was developing a Boombox and it won a reddot award. Upon further investigation I found Oluv's Youtube and Patreon. Decided to check out what he'd been working on. He compared the uboom X with quite a number of products and the sound coming through seemed exceptional on my Philips Fidelio X2HR headphones. So... I received the product today, and downloaded the newest firmware from the app.

This product is my entry into owning a BT boombox, so take that as you will. I also have a Klipsch Promedia 2.1 computer system and Soundcore Q45s. As far as quality goes, that's it.

Oluv's presets work for a variety of circumstances. I find myself using the indoor and outdoor and their + version mainly. I haven't seen anyone measure decibels so I went ahead and did that... at max volume, 6ft directly in front of the system, I measured a consistent 88db on indoor preset. Peak at 90db. It seemed to reflect that across other modes, but for some reason on Boom xxX preset, it peaked at 110db.
Anyway, I think that was software error, otherwise it seemed to average 90db at peak.

I like the lights. Also, the Earfun presets (non-Oluv) are absolute garbage.

Overall the sound is actually awesome, I'm enjoying it!

Exceeds Expectations.

Was a little skeptical about this unit at first after watching some mixed reviews. However, upon unboxing and pairing to my phone and app, an update to the latest firmware was performed. It took about 2 minutes. My initial assessment is that this thing is awesome. Turns out a lot of reviews that I watched did not have the latest firmware installed and that made all the difference. My favorites preset eq so far is indoor plus. This Bluetooth speaker far exceeded my expectations. The bass is very good and the music is very clear and balanced. For the money this is pound for pound the best boombox style speaker I have used. Show Full Review
