Compared to Sony and Samsung By D. Eaton Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2024

Summary: EarFun is a good choice, even compared to more expensive rivals.
EarFun supports high quality LDAC, and the sound is very good. The earbuds are comfortable to wear and the case fits my front jeans pocket. EarFun has effective Ambient and Noise Cancelling modes and a surprising amount of passive isolation in Normal mode. It claims to use feedforward and feedback microphones for up to 50dB attenuation. It is easy to customize the sound profile with the app. However, all is not perfect. Using LDAC disables Dual Device option, but Dual Device did not work for me anyway. It was always hit or miss switching between 2 Samsung phones, and the app would even sometimes tell me I wasn’t connected while I was actually listening.
COMPARISON
SONY WF-1000XM5 has superb sound, but it does not live up to its over-hyped noise cancellation (ANC). Many people find them uncomfortable to wear and Sony is much more expensive – even on sale. With both LDAC and ANC, the battery life is about 7 hours.
SAMSUNG Buds2 Pro sound quality is as good as Sony and they completely trounce Sony on noise cancellation (especially for low frequencies). They are small and comfortable to wear and are typically massively discounted. Switching between Samsung phones is easy. But yes, battery life is as bad as everyone says (~4.5 hours with ANC on), and maddeningly, there is no way to customize equalization. Also, they are best paired with a Samsung phone.
EARFUN (with LDAC on) has great sound. Customizing sound equalization is easy with the app, and there also many presets. Noise cancellation (ANC) works as well as Samsung, and battery life is about 7 hours with ANC on. I found them the most comfortable to wear and the case fits in my pocket. Unfortunately, the app does not have a test to help you pick the proper size of eartips, and it was always a trial to switch between phones.
PRO
Great sound quality using LDAC option.
Very good ANC.
Very comfortable.
Pretty good battery life.
Wireless charging is supported.
Case is small enough to be easily pocket-able.
App lets you save several custom equalizer settings (there are also a selection of presets).
Earbud controls are completely customizable.
In-ear detection (audio stops when you remove a bud from your ear).
5 sizes of eartips from small to extra large.
CON
Selecting LDAC disables the Dual Devices setting.
Dual Device Connection doesn’t work consistently on Samsung, so switching phones is hard.
Sometimes, I could be actually listening to the earbuds and the app would tell me I was not connected.
No eartip fitting measurement in the app.
DETAILS
Noise Cancelling (ANC): Has useful settings for Normal, Ambient and Noise Cancelling. ANC itself has 5 different Noise Cancelling Options, but I couldn’t hear any differences.
TEST 1 Voices on a TV (at a normal volume): Even NORMAL had enough passive sound isolation that voices were greatly reduced. AMBIENT restored close to normal sound, and ANC eliminated almost all sounds.
TEST 2 Shop vac 3’ away: Still some noise, but ANC was good enough to replace earmuffs.
TEST 3 Table saw 3’ away: ANC was not good enough to replace earmuffs, but it removed about 50% of the noise. About as effective as Samsung (Sony was noticeably worse).
TEST 4 Neighbor with lawnmower 100’ away: I turned on ANC and there was complete silence.
My Sound Profile: This process tries to determine your ear’s sensitivity to high and low sound frequencies. Then it adjusts volume for each frequency to make up for lack of sensitivity in your ears. This process requires a very quiet room, and I found it a little tricky. In my case, it didn’t make much audible difference.
Dual Device Connection: This is supposed to speed switching earbuds between 2 devices such as phone and tablet, but you cannot use use it with LDAC. It did not work well with Samsung.
LDAC for highest quality audio: However it cannot be used with Dual Device Connection. Instead, you get Qualcomm aptX, aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless. I did not find these as good as LDAC when paired with my Samsung phone.
Game Mode: Reduces audio latency for precise gaming, but may result in an unstable connection.
Find headphones: plays a loud sound through the earbuds to help locate them. Show Full Review

I recently purchased these earbuds. They have an excellent tone range and create a pleasant soundscape. They are also very lightweight and comfortable to wear. The earbuds also have multi-pairing capabilities, which is a convenient feature. Overall, they are an excellent purchase, especially considering their low price. Show Full Review

Decided to give these a try because of the noise cancellation feature and also the price. I am new to the earbud gang to I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a set that wouldn't stay in my ears. These are good earbuds! They pair super fast, they charge fast, and they are noise cancelling! They last until my lunch and then I charge them up again for the last leg of my shift until I get home, I definitely recommend these earbuds. Show Full Review

I own several pair of earbuds from several different from various price points. The EarFun Pro 4 are by far the best in the under $90 price point that I have, and they give my $300 earbuds a run for their money. They sound terrific. I listen to many different genres of music and the EarFun Pro 4's don't disappoint no matter what I'm listening to. I especially love how you can customize the sound for your ears using the app. The noise cancelling is not quite as good as my much more expensive Sony earbuds, but it is by no means not very good. It's just a notch below the Sony, which has the best NC of any earbuds I own. Battery life is excellent too. All around, I'm amazed these cost what they do. Easily 5 Stars. Show Full Review

These are very impressive.
I really like the size and fit of these. They also come with several additional silicone ear pieces to help with fit.
They charge quick, and charge in the little black storage case when away from power.
I am very impressed with the sound quality of these. I used them today to listen to a podcast while I mowed the yard on a ZT mower. The mower is NOT quiet, but the noise cancelling really eliminated the mower sound almost to nothing which allows you to listen to your music/podcast at a more normal level than with other earbuds. Usually I use earbuds with muffs over them to help eliminate the loud motor. I did not have to do it with these.
The app makes the ear buds very adjustable and much easier to use and even modify the preset buttons.
I have never used a set of noise cancelling ear buds that work this well and I have tried a few. I have never used Apple Air Buds® so I am sorry I can't compare. I will say that the elimination of the mower motor as well as other lawn equipment was Extremely impressive.
The price to function is phenomenal and I would recommend these for sure. Show Full Review
